I have always maintained that a person who wants (and should) to learn anything can. In this country of libraries and internet freedom (get it while you can) you can teach yourself whatever you want to, without having to take thousands of dollars to attend a formal college. The benefit of a college is the parties, the being away from home, and if it is a small enough college, some guidance.
We have an illiteracy problem in the US, a large population of people under the age of 50 who don't know where they are on the globe, who don't know history but think they do because education in the US is so poor since the 1960's. I have always maintained that people should educate themselves, continue learning. If they don't know something, look it up. Even computers come with dictionaries these days... And although it's the "in" thing to say Wikipedia is inaccurate, it is closely monitored and if a subject is not documented, the subject is removed or labeled as questionable.... in a word, Wikipedia is hundreds of times more accurate than ignorance. Use it. It is a free resource, although a donation now and then is advisable to keep it going. Those are very educated people who work very hard to keep it going. I wouldn't doubt their integrity.
And there is the rest if the internet. While there is a lot of misinformation presented on the web about current events, there is also a tremendous amount of accurate information about everything else. People share what they know there.
Here is an organization that has that idea in mind, and I'm so glad to come across it and pass it on to whoever would like to add this resource to the world of information readily available. It's called the Khan Academy. http://www.khanacademy.org/
They have more than three thousand videos on everything from math, physics, to finance, history, and more, and hundreds of skills to practice. This is a solution to so many illiteracy problems, to so much ignorance that has gotten us into the political mess we are currently in. You say you will never use the knowledge you get in school? Yes you will. Right now, we are where we are in the US because people are so uneducated they vote against their own best interests, or don't vote at all. How dumb is that?
Educate yourself. And while we're at it, start with proper grammar. The idea that just because you are posting on a social media site means you can use sloppy English, is wrong. Always use proper grammar, the correct words, and don't rely on spell checker to proof for you. Proof what you type yourself. Please. Even slang has proper spelling and punctuation. There are educated people in the world, and it is not just distracting to see improper grammar, or misspelling. It's painful.
Put your fantasy computer games aside and do something good for yourself. Get an education. Change your world for the better.
